PKP Intercity has announced a public procurement procedure for the construction of a new locomotive depot in Warsaw which will also include a washing facility and the reconstruction of the social building with the necessary construction equipment and accompanying infrastructure. The project also covers the construction of a rolling stock diagnostics station, including testing of wheel set pressure on the rail, and the reconstruction of rail traffic control devices.
The winner will design and build the new facility that will be equipped with the infrastructure and technology, according to the requirements.
The entire project should be completed in a maximum of 33 months from the date of signing the contract. A maximum period of 15 months has been provided for the preparation of design documentation and obtaining administrative decisions. The deadline for the completion of construction works has been set at 18 months from the date of obtaining a valid building permit. The criteria for evaluating offers in the procedure are the price and the deadline for the completion of design documentation.
The construction of the new locomotive depot in Warsaw is another project implemented by the Polish long distance rail operator to modernise and expand its facilities and to renew its technical infrastructure.
By 2030, the company will invest PLN 2.6 billion (EUR 609 million), thanks to which it will have 20 modern depots and facilities. The modernisation of its facilities will standardise their technical solutions. The facilities will be divided into three categories, adapted to the appropriate standard of rolling stock needs in a given location in terms of implementing the timetable assumptions.
As a result, the standard of rolling stock service will be raised and the technological process will be optimised, which will shorten the time it takes to prepare the rolling stock for travel.
The development of PKP Intercity’s facilities will support the existing and the new rolling stock. The carrier has recently signed with Newag a framework contract for the supply of 63 electric multi-system locomotives including an option for 32 additional vehicles and the provision of maintenance services. Last year, PKP Intercity exercised an option of a contract signed with Newag in 2021 and ordered an additional 5 electric locomotives and in March 2023 acquired 20 Griffin electric locomotives. With Newag another contract was signed for 35 hybrid multiple units.
In addition, the company signed with FPS Poznań a contract for the supply of 300 carriages including an option for 150 vehicles. FPS Poznań is also modernising 40 inter-city coaches.
Its subsidiary PKP Intercity Remtrak is also modernising 330 coaches and provides maintenance services for 500 railcars under a EUR 201.5 million contract.
