Czech rail sector obtained EUR 467.7 million from the third CEF Transport call for proposals, for 11 projects, part of the 134 selected projects in the EU.
Správa železnic secured CZK 11.5 billion (EUR 465.1 million) CEF funding for ten projects. The rail operator Arriva vlaky obtained EUR 2.57 million for ETCS Baseline 3 retrofitting project for 848 passenger trains in Czechia. The main benefits of the project will be an increased capacity and efficiency for rail services for passengers, interoperability and safety in the TEN-T network in the country.
The selected Správa železnic projects are:
- The largest co-financing of the allocated funding for the period 2021-2027 is aimed at the extensive reconstruction of the key station Česká Třebová. Through CEF, the rail infrastructure manager obtained EUR 290 million funding for this project with works expected to start in December and to be completed in December 2031;
- EUR 95.9 million co-financing will be used for the prepation and studies of Prague – Brno – Břeclav high-speed rail which will include documentation for the permission of the project covering six sections and other connections to conventional lines and terminals;
- EUR 40 million will support the development of the necessary studies to upgrade the 160 km Kolín – Všetaty – Děčín line which ensures cross border connection with Germany;
- EUR 17.2 million will support Správa železnic to deploy the ETCS L2 on 102.7 km on České Velenice – České Budějovice – Horní Dvořiště line;
- EUR 9.5 million for modern interlocking system on 19 km in Masarykovo station, in Prague, and the deployment of ETCS on the 27.6 km Praha-Liben–Praha Masarykovo nádraží–Praha-Bubny–Praha-Holešovice section;
- EUR 9.4 million is the co-financing for the mdoernisation of interlocking equipment to allow ETCS L2 deployment on Czech railway network;
- EUR 2.9 million were provided for ETCS Level 2 trackside and GSM-R on the Plzen-Nyrany–Chotesov railway section;
- EUR 2.8 million will be used for the modernisation of Brno – Přerov line including the installation of the ERTMS and the construction of 8.5 km section between Nezamyslice and Kojetín;
- EUR 2.8 million will be used for implementation of GSM-R digital radio system on 70 km line from Hranice na Morave to the state border with Slovakia;
- EUR 2.1 million was granted to upgrading and retrofitting of 3 traction trains with ETCS L2 Baseline 3.
Through the first three calls for proposals of the CEF2 2021 – 2027, Správa železnic secured CZK 33 billion (EUR 1.3 billion) and hopes to secure more European co-financing under the fourth CEF call which will be closed in January 2025 to implement Czech rail projects that will support modal shift.
