The first monorail train of Line 17-Ouro (gold) for the São Paulo Metro arrived in Brazil.
The train is scheduled to arrive în Pátio Água Espraiada, where it will undergo the final assembly process, followed by testing protocols that will guarantee the safety certificate and release for operation.
The ship “Kong Que Song” departed on May 15 from the Port of Zhangjiagang, in the Shanghai region of China, carrying this train, which is part of a batch of 14 units ordered by the Metro from BYD.
The second unit, manufactured in China, will arrive in Brazil later this year and the others will be delivered throughout 2025, according to the established schedule.
Train Features
The first train, as well as the other 13 units, was designed exclusively to meet the Line 17-Ouro project, with automatic operation mode (UTO), using Train Monitoring Control System (TCMS) technology and CBTC signaling system, which, through digital radio communication, forms mobile blocks between the trains, allowing greater proximity between them and reducing the circulation interval.
Each monorail train consists of five cars, with the end cars having 21 seats each and the intermediate cars having 24 seats each, totaling 114 seats and with a total capacity for 616 passengers, including priority seats and areas for the disabled.
The train has free passage between cars, air conditioning system, LED lighting, surveillance cameras, fire detection and fighting system, audiovisual communication system for passengers, with dynamic line map and intercom for contact with the Operational Control Center (CCO).
The vehicle is 3.2 meters wide, the end cars are 13.5 meters each and the intermediate cars are 10 meters long each, in addition to the passage area of 0.95 meters, totaling 60.8 meters in length. Each car has four doors (two on each side) measuring 1.6 meters wide that comply with accessibility standards and criteria. The side walls are equipped with panoramic windows, providing an excellent view of the surroundings of the route and tilt-and-turn windows, which can be opened if necessary, ensuring emergency ventilation for passengers.
The monorail operates on 800 mm wide concrete beams and has two bogies per car, each equipped with a traction motor, two load wheels, four guide wheels and two stabilizer wheels. The monorail operates at a nominal voltage of 750 V DC, with an operating speed of 80 km/h.
The monorail is equipped with traction batteries, which act as a backup power source for the vehicle, thus ensuring that the train reaches the next station, even if there is an interruption in the power supply, providing greater safety for the user in the event of an operational emergency.
Implementation of Line 17-Gold
The Metro resumed construction of Line 17-Ouro in September last year and has been advancing with over a thousand people involved. The company recently completed the laying of beams, by hoisting, of the commercial operation track, and there are activities to manufacture beams for the Yard, in addition to the assembly of track switching devices at this location.
The stations are also finished and adjusted, in addition to the manufacture of metal structures, walkways and enclosure frames. In parallel, activities are carried out to install systems, with the installation of ducts and electrical power cabling, as well as the use of a trolley that runs along the tracks to install the energy collection rails, in addition to work in China , such as the manufacture of platform doors and gas-insulated primary substations; in Germany, Hungary and Spain – for the manufacture of power disconnectors, rectifier groups, train washing machines and other equipment.
The goal is to complete the gross construction work by the end of 2025, allowing progress on the installation of systems for the opening of the line in 2026, which will connect Congonhas Airport to the rail transport network and benefit 100,000 people daily.
