The Czech rail infrastructure manager, Správa železnic, is searching for a constructor to perform extensive modernisation of the Česká Třebová rail hub with an estimated value of CZK 19.5 billion (EUR 788.7 million). The selected contractor will begin the work by the end of this year and complete it in 2031.
Under the project, all platforms will undergo complete reconstruction, access to them will be barrier-free thanks to elevators. The trains will speed up when they pass, and the noise from the railway traffic will be reduced at the same time.
A major change awaits the existing platform in Česká Třebová as it will be expanded and raised to allow convenient boarding of trains and new roofing will complement passenger shelters. As part of the construction, a new information system will be built in the station.
The current underpass to the platform will be completely rebuilt and also extended under the entire track. It will be equipped with new elevators and will serve as barrier-free access to trains. The public underpass in the southern part of the station will be replaced by a modern steel footbridge that will connect the forecourt with Semanínská street.
The project also covers restoration and rehabilitation work at 32 bridges and 15 culverts which will allow passenger and freight trains to run at 80 km/h from currently 60 km/h. The entire station will be connected to remote control from the Prague Central Dispatch Office. In the vicinity of the railway, anti-noise walls will be built, and rail noise absorbers will be installed.
The greatest restrictions for passengers will only occur from the end of 2027, when it will be necessary to use two temporary platforms instead of the existing ones.
The project preparation of the “Modernisation of the Česká Třebová railway hub” is co-financed by EU funds from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF).
Česká Třebová rail hub plays an essential role for freight and passenger transport in the Czech Republic as it is an important junction on Praha – Kolín – Česká Třebová route, the most heavily used rail lines in the Czech Republic.
Správa železnic is implementing the project covering the modernisation of the Ceska Trebova rail node covering the rehabilitation of 58 km of tracks, 400 switches, 30 bridges and 15 culverts. The entire railway station will be connected to remote control from the Central Dispatch Office in Prague.
In 2016, Správa železnic completed the reconstruction of the railway superstructure and adjoining switches on the so-called fourth set of sorting sidings at Česká Třebová freight railway station. The project aided in fulfilling the global objective of Operational Programme Transport Priority Axis 1 which is an improvement of railway transport on the Trans-European Transport Network TEN-T. The project included adaptations of the railway substructure and superstructure in the field of track brakes and in track leads as well as reconstruction of track brakes on sorting tracks. Adaptations of safety and signalling equipment, air conditioning distribution and local cables took place as well. The distribution substation, the catenary and sorting tracks’ lighting and new system of switches’ electrical heating and completed the long-distance diagnostics system were reconstructed.
