Alstom has commissioned Knorr-Bremse to supply equipment for four-car Coradia Max EMU fleet destined for regional rail services in Schleswig-Holstein.
Knorr-Bremse will supply and install state-of-the-art braking, entrance and sanitary systems for another 42 high-performance electric multiple units based on the Coradia Max platform. The train manufacturer has also optioned system solutions for 55 more trains.
Knorr-Bremse will start to supply the project with system solutions in early 2025 with deliveries to run until the end of 2027.

The latest multi-system order covers electropneumatic braking systems, oil-free PistonSupply Eco compressors, highly configurable FlexControl Modular brake control systems, SysControl brake electronics, and SandGrip sanding systems.
Knorr-Bremse subsidiary IFE is supplying 672 weight-optimised, maintenance-friendly entrance systems, plus an equal number of flexibly extendable sliding steps that will make it easier for passengers with reduced mobility, strollers or heavy luggage to board and alight from the trains.
Knorr-Bremse subsidiary Evac is contributing to passenger comfort by supplying SanSys sanitary systems (three units per trainset). Among other benefits, the sustainable sanitary system features lower water consumption and uses recyclable materials such as aluminum instead of fiberglass honeycomb in its wall panels.
To upgrade its regional train fleet and improve transportation capacity, Schleswig-Holstein’s local public transit association (NAH.SH) has ordered in July 2023, 40 Coradia Stream EMUs with option for up to 55 units and in October 2023, NAH.SH ordered 42 additional Coradia Max EMU fleet.
Knorr-Bremse has been commissioned to supply braking, entrance and sanitary systems for the new trains. Under a framework agreement concluded in 2021, whenever rail operators raise call-off orders for Alstom’s Coradia Max trains, Knorr-Bremse acts as a key supplier of systems for the versatile, high-performance train family.
The four-car electric multiple units (EMUs) consist of two double-decker and two single-decker railcars. With up to 390 seats, the trains do indeed have a high passenger capacity, and the single-decker cars are optimized for barrier-free accessibility.
