Contract for 10 trains. Alstom signs a GBP 370 million contract for ten Aventra trains with associated maintenance for the Elizabeth line in London, UK.
Alstom, one of the world leaders in smart and sustainable mobility, has signed a contract worth around GBP 370 million for ten new nine-car Aventra trains – and maintenance – for Transport for London’s Elizabeth line.
The Elizabeth Line is an urban and suburban rail line in and around London.
Contract for 10 trains
Opening in 2022, the Elizabeth line continues to experience higher than expected passenger demand and its current fleet of 70 Alstom-built Aventra Class 345 trains would be insufficient to meet demand for the next decade and into the 2030s.
The additional Aventra electric multiple unit (EMU) passenger trains will be built at Alstom’s Derby plant.
“We are delighted to now have a confirmed workload for Derby Litchurch Lane and our UK supply chain,” said Nick Crossfield, managing director UK and Ireland at Alstom.
“The UK remains one of Alstom‘s most important global markets,” he added.
The contract includes new trains, which are being funded to the tune of GBP 220.5 million from the Department for Transport, and Transport for London has also signed a contract to provide train maintenance services on these units until 2046.
