Transporeon, a Trimble company, and ÖBB Rail Cargo Group (RCG) have announced an expanded collaboration and added new corridors to their joint offering. The announcement follows their joint win of the Austrian Logistics Award 2024, which was awarded on June 5 by the Association Network Logistics (VNL).
According to the two companies, customers can now shift their transports to less CO2-intensive rail and multimodal chains, where the long-distance journey is handled by rail and the first and last kilometers are flexibly handled by truck – conveniently to and from the customer’s desired location.
“The increasing demand for decarbonisation is also encouraging shippers to shift freight transport from road to multimodal transport. However, new studies have shown that the lack of integration of rail and multimodal transport with other supply chain solutions is a major hurdle. By working with ÖBB Rail Cargo Group, we are tackling this problem in a targeted manner. In addition, we are pleased to deploy a branded locomotive on the RCG network, symbolizing the strength of our collaboration”, Christopher Keating, Senior Vice President of Trimble Transportation Europe, said.

Real-time visibility and emissions calculation
- Real-time tracking: By using telematics to capture primary data, shippers can track their rail shipments in real time via the Transporeon platform.
- Calculation of greenhouse gas emissions: Transporeon’s platform offers a calculation of the carbon footprint according to CountEmissoinsEU.
As part of ongoing efforts to reduce its environmental footprint, Nestlé Hungary is actively exploring the potential of multimodal transport.

By using their technology, we can load vehicles more efficiently and plan our journeys better, while making smarter decisions that are in line with our emission reduction goals. The announcement builds on last year’s collaboration, when the two companies announced the integration of RCG’s offerings and services on the Transporeon platform in March 2023 and successfully tested it with pilot routes between Germany, Austria and Italy.
The cooperation is in line with the European Union’s goal of doubling rail freight transport by 2050. By enabling an integrated end-to-end supply chain, Transporeon and RCG ensure that transport by rail and multimodal transport can be handled just as efficiently and conveniently as by road.
