The Office for the Reorganization of Transport (OPRET) awarded Alstom a new contract to carry out the comprehensive maintenance service for Santo Domingo Metro trains.
The contract term is for three years. The services that will be provided include the performance of preventive and corrective maintenance of the trains, assistance with incidents and failures in service among others.
“This important contract reinforces Alstom’s commitment to the Dominican Republic to provide technological solutions that allow us to offer a quality, clean and reliable modern transportation service to satisfy the mobility needs of the residents of its capital, Santo Domingo,” said Iván Moncayo, the Manager Director of Alstom Panama and the Dominican Republic.
Alstom realizes the maintenance of the Santo Domingo Metro trains 24 hours a day and on weekends, to minimise disruptions to passengers and increase system reliability.
The Santo Domingo Metro is the metropolitan railway network of the city of Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic. Since the inauguration of the second line in 2016, it is the most extensive metropolitan railway system in the Caribbean. Daily, the two metro lines, operated by the Office for Transportation Reordering (OPRET) with a fleet of 52 Alstom Metropolis trains, carry around 400,000 passengers. OPRET is currently executing the construction of a 7.5Km extension of Line 2.
Alstom has contributed to the consolidation and growth of the Santo Domingo Metro, both in the provision of rolling stock and in fleet maintenance.
In April 2024, the Transport Reordering Office and Alstom signed a contract for the manufacture, supply and commissioning of 8 three-car trains for the Line 2C, a 7.3 km section with five stations which will be part of the integrated transport system Metro – Teleférico de Santo Domingo.
The new contract is fully financed with a credit from the Central American Bank of Economic Integration (BCIE).
