Siemens Mobility has completed the overhauls for the first two of PKP Cargo’s Vectron locomotives, after eight years of use. Between 2015 and 2022, PKP Cargo purchased a total of 25 Vectron MS locomotives from Siemens Mobility. In 2023, Siemens Mobility handed over PKP Cargo the last 5 Vectron MS locomotives.
Siemens Mobility carried out P4 periodic repairs for the first 12 vehicles. The first two multisystem locomotives have already been handed over to PKP Cargo after revision and have returned to the route. The revisions are carried out by the Polish service branch of Siemens Mobility.
“We are revising 12 locomotives for PKP Cargo locally, in Warsaw, in cooperation with the Siemens locomotive service and repair centre in Munich Allach. The P4 level repair includes, among other things, an overhaul of the locomotive bogies, brake system, air conditioning, fans and safety systems. Most of the work, including the P4 level repair of pantographs, fans, high-speed switches and air-conditioning equipment, among others, is being carried out in Poland. This is the first complete overhaul of the Vectron MS in Poland,” Aleksander Staniuk, head of the Polish Siemens Mobility service team, said.
The most advanced Vectron multi-system locomotives are key to a wide range of freight tasks across Europe and strong growth in the intermodal segment as well. Vectrons are state-of-the-art, versatile locomotives on the European market, with a modular design that allows easy adaptation to the requirements of use and specifics of driving in different countries. Their design was guided primarily by efficiency and cost-effectiveness in carrying out freight tasks in both domestic and international passenger and freight traffic in Europe.
Since 2009, the Siemens Mobility service team has been carrying out maintenance and repair activities for Siemens locomotives running on Polish tracks. The team of more than 60 people operates in three locations – Warsaw, Poznan and Sosnowiec. It services both Eurosprinter family vehicles and the most modern locomotives in Europe – the Vectrons. Siemens Mobility is also the first rail vehicle manufacturer operating on the Polish market with ECM certification in the area of locomotive maintenance.
So far, the Siemens Mobility service team has carried out P4 revision for U4 (Hussars – PKP Intercity) and F4 (PKP Cargo) locomotives. Siemens Mobility has extended the contract to perform a complete revision of PKP Cargo’s Vectron locomotives.
