A consortium including Alstom has been awarded a EUR 50 million contract for tram line 4.2 in Florence, northern Italy.
The tender was awarded to a consortium of companies composed of CMB, Alstom, Hitachi Rail and ComNet and covers operations spanning 5.3 kilometres (11 stations) of line 4.2 Campi Bisenzio-Piagge. Line 4.2 will connect Le Piagge station to San Donnino and from there to the centre of Campi Bisenzio.
11 km of tram line in Florence modernised
“We are delighted to be able to contribute to the enhancement of Florence’s transport system by building more than 11 kilometres of tram line, in addition to what has already been achieved for Line 2. By signing this new contract, we are reinforcing our once again recognised expertise in providing innovative solutions for local public transport,” said Michele Viale, Alstom’s manager in Italy and president and CEO of Alstom Ferroviaria.
The contract includes an option, for the second lot, which will cover the 6.3 kilometres of Line 4.1 Piagge-Leopolda (13 stations) will link Line 4.2 with the city centre.
The project is funded by the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan. The work will be carried out by the System & Infrastructure team in Rome and the electric traction components will be designed and supplied by Alstom’s site in Valmadrera, Lecco.
