T12 tram-train route in Île-de-France inaugurated

T12 tram-train route Île-de-France Mobilités has inaugurated Paris T12 tram-train route, which connects Massy with Évry-Courcouronnes, two communes in the southern part of the city, in a 40-minute journey.

The President of the Region Île-de-France and President of Île-de-France Mobilités, Valérie Pécresse, inaugurated the new line together with the Prefect of Paris Ile-de-France region, Marc Guillaume, the Prefect of Essonne, Bertrand Gaume, the President of the Department of Essonne, François Durovray, the mayor of Evry Courcouronnes, Stéphane Beaudet, the Chairman and CEO of SNCF Voyageurs, Christophe Fanichet, and the President Managing Director of SNCF Réseau, Matthieu Chabanel.

The 20.4 km line has 16 stations and has been put into operation on December 9, 2023, after three months of trials. The line uses 11 stops that have been built under the project and 5 existing stations on the renovated RER C line. The stations are equipped with real-time passenger information, seats for passengers.

The construction work for the new tram-train line started in 2018 and the work for the infrastructure has a value of EUR 526 million, of which the Île-de-France Region covered 56% of the costs, while 30% were provided from state budget, 4% by the SNCF, and 10% by the Essonne department. EUR 90 million was the value of the tram-train delivery contract financed by Île-de-France Mobilités and signed with Alstom which supplied 25 Citadis Dualis vehicles for this line.

In a consortium with TSO (leader) and Terideal, Alstom also built the new 10 km tramway track between Épinay-sur-Orge and Evry-Courcouronnes for line T12 (the line uses existing tracks between Massy-Palaiseau and Épinay-sur-Orge).

Paris T12 tram-train route is using the rail network between the Massy and Petit Vaux stations, which it now serving instead of the RER C railway line. In addition, the new tram-train line relieves the congestion on the RER C line and reduces travel time for travellers in the Longjumeau, Chilly Mazarin, Gravigny Balizy and Petit Vaux communes.

Every day, more than 40,000 passengers will be able to enjoy the benefits and performance of a latest-generation rolling stock, which is environmentally friendly and 100% accessible to people with reduced mobility.

The accessible and fast line facilitates travel within the Essonne department formed by twelve communes* as well as between the different activity and employment centres in the area thanks to connections with the rest of the regional network covering the RER B, C, D rail routes, bus lines, Tzen 4 bus route and, the future metro Line 18 of the Grand Paris Express.
