Ukraine Railways, Ukrzaliznytsia, will launch Lviv – Warsaw railway connection, which was closed 18 years ago.
“We are constantly working on the expansion of international rail passenger routes so that Ukrainians can easily travel abroad and return home. It took us more than 6 months to implement this project, in particular, to agree on all the details with the Polish side and to open the checkpoint. From now on, 10 more settlements in Ukraine will be connected by rail to Warsaw and Lublin,” Yevhen Lyashchenko, chairman of the board of Ukrzaliznytsia said.
The service will operate in a transfer format at a station in Rava-Ruska, a town located in the Lviv region at the border between Ukraine and Poland. From this station, passengers will conveniently transfer from a train operating 1520 mm gauge line, to a train with a European gauge (1435 mm) and vice versa.
The train schedule is designed to provide access to rail services not only Lviv, but also in the cities of Ivano-Frankivsk, Stryi, Kolomyia, Kalush, Morshyn, Bryukhovychy and Zhovkva which will benefit connection with Warsaw and Lublin without unnecessary transfers. Passengers from other cities of Ukraine will be able to use a transfer in Lviv.
Ukrzaliznytsia says that “passengers should not worry about possible delays, since the transfer has been agreed [with Polish side]. The train will always be waiting for all passengers.”
Each train will have a capacity for 500 passengers in each direction, travelling almost 10 hours on this route linking the two cities.
The Lviv – Warsaw railway connection was implemented in cooperation with the private Polish operator carrier Association of Local Railroad Transport (SKPL) whose rolling stock will deliver services from Warsaw, via Hrebenne cross-border point to Rava-Ruska and vice versa.
On October 6, SKPL launched trials from Warsaw to Rava-Rus and vice versa to comply the train schedules.
Today a test flight of the Polish carrier SKPL, the moving warehouse of which will perform flights from Warsaw to Rava-Rus виka and vice versa, stopped by the station Rava-Russ Сьогодніka: the machinists of our partners study the route in preparation for the launch of the regular connection.
In addition, together with the launch of this route, Ukrzaliznytsia is resuming the operation of a previously inactive railway checkpoint, which opens up new opportunities for the development of its international network.
