Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway (PKM) awarded Alstom a contract to provide full maintenance services, including repairs and periodic inspections of rail traffic control equipment manufactured by the Alstom ZWUS site in Katowice.
This is the fourth maintenance contract in a row, proof of the ongoing and positive cooperation between the two entities since 2016.
The contract is signed for a period of two years, starting May 1st 2023 until April 30th 2025. The maintenance will cover conventional rail traffic control devices and ERTMS/ETCS Level 2 equipment.
“The services to be provided will translate into an even greater range of support to achieve high rail infrastructure availability. Taking care of a comprehensive and regular maintenance will ensure stable operation of rail traffic control devices, which in turn will translate into improved performance and increased train punctuality,” Adam Juretko, Managing Director of Alstom ZWUS Sp.o.o. said.
In total, the contract is for the maintenance of 477 traffic control devices, which are located on railroad line No. 248 and No. 253.
The total length of the line is more than 18 km of double-track, with 9 passenger stations. The line has been put into operation in 2015 providing transport links in the Tri-City area connecting the Gdańsk International Airport with Wrzeszcz in northern Gdańsk.
The line consisting of the railway lines No. 248 and No. 253 is operated by PKP Szybka Kolej Miejska in Tri-City and Polregio.
Currently, Pomeranian Metropolitan Railway is improving its infrastructure covering works to electrify it as well as contructing the Kartuski bypass. In addition, plans also include a new connection between the city centre of Gdańsk and its southern districts.
In 2021, the company signed with Torpol a contract for electrification works including the integration with the existing lines No. 201 and No. 202 and the construction of a new Gdańsk Firoga stop and the expansion of the existing technical and telematic infrastructure of PKM.
The new stop has been put into operation in December 2022 with the opening of the first platform providing connection from Gdańsk Wrzeszcz towards the airport and further to Gdynia, Kartuzy or Kościerzyna. Platform 2 is expected to be opened in mid-2023.
