Valjevo–Vrbnica–Bar lineRZD International and Infrastructure of Serbian Railways signed a contract for the technical documentation on the reconstruction and modernisation of Valjevo–Vrbnica–Bar line. The agreement was signed on September 21 in Belgrade.

The construction is scheduled to start at the beginning of 2022, with RZD performing the works on the 210 km railway line.

The agreement was signed by General Director of RZD International Sergey Stolyarov and General Director of Infrastructure of Serbia Railways Nebojša Šurlan, in the presence of the Serbian Minister of Transport Zorana Mikhailovich and the First Deputy General Director of Russian Railways Sergey Pavlov.

“Together with our Serbian partners, we are taking on the most complex and responsible projects to revive the country’s railway infrastructure. This process is intensive and gaining momentum every year, in proportion to the attention of the Government of Serbia to the issue of the development of railway transport. Russian Railways, for its part, is ensuring the impeccable fulfillment of the assigned tasks,” Sergey Pavlov said at the signing ceremony.

In 2019, the Serbian Minister of Transport Zorana Mihajlovic and the RZD CEO Oleg Belozerov signed a cooperation agreement for the modernisation of the Valjevo – Vrbnica, which provides the rail transport connection with Montenegro.

This Valjevo–Vrbnica–Bar line will create a full-fledged transport corridor with access to the ports of the Adriatic Sea, which will contribute to the socioeconomic development of Serbia both in terms of increasing cargo turnover and by increasing transport accessibility for the population.

RZD is modernising Serbian railway infrastructure since 2014. The reconstruction of the Belgrade–Pančevo and Resnik–Valjevo lines, railway sections of the international transport Corridor X, and a railway track on the bridge over the Danube River have been already completed. Also, 27 two-car diesel trainsets of Russian production were delivered to Serbia.

On the Stara Pazova–Novi Sad section of the Belgrade–Budapest line, Russian Railways is currently reconstructing the railway for a speed of up to 200 km/h and building a viaduct in the floodplain of the Danube River and the Cortanovci tunnel.

In January 2019, RZD International and Serbian Railways Infrastructure signed an agreement for the design and construction works for the creation of the Integrated Traffic Control Center. It stipulates for the execution of construction works and the supply of materials as part of the second stage of reconstruction, modernization, and construction of a double-track railway for a speed of up to 200 km/h on the 40.44 km Stara Pazova–Novi Sad section of the Belgrade–Budapest line.
