Singapore’s Land Transport Authority (LTA) awarded four contracts for the Jurong Region Line (JRL) with a total value of SGD 682.5 million (USD 490.6 million) which include the construction of stations, viaducts, and the installation of signalling, control and communications systems.
The joint venture of Daewoo Engineering & Construction – Yongnam Engineering & Construction was awarded a SGD 320.4 million (USD 230.3 million) contract for the design and construction of three stations their associated viaducts. The contract covers the design and construction of Toh Guan, Jurong Town Hall and Pandan Reservoir stations and viaducts spanning 3.6 km. The construction works are expected to start later this year.
Siemens Mobility – Siemens Rail Automation consortium won a SGD 215.5 million (USD 155 million) contract for the supply of the signalling system and half-height platform screen doors. Under the contract, the consortium will design, manufacture, supply, install, test and commission the signalling system and half-height platform screen doors for the entire Jurong Region Line. The consortium will provide the CBTC signalling technology supporting the fully automated train operations. It will also be equipped with condition monitoring capabilities to support predictive maintenance over the life cycle of the system.
Two contracts with a total value of SGD 146.6 million (USD 105.38 million) were awarded to ST Engineering Electronics for the integrated supervisory control system and the communication system for the JRL. The integrated supervisory control system is an integral part of efficient rail operations and provides the basic framework to enable a rail line’s operation control centre, depot control centre and passenger service centre to remotely supervise and control other electrical and mechanical systems and services, as well as civil equipment. The communications system for the JRL comprises sub-systems such as the communications backbone network, digital trunked radio, video surveillance, public address, telephone and travel information systems. This system is critical to ensure the safe and efficient operation of a fully automated train system.
The Jurong Region Line is the 7th MRT line providing transport services in western part of Singapore. It will offer improved connectivity within Jurong area which is set to be the largest commercial hub outside the Central Business District. The line will have a total length of 24 km served 24 stations. The whole line is expected to enter passenger services in 2028.
This year, LTA awarded a contract for the construction of three stations and 2.3 km of viaducts. In September 2019, the transport authority awarded two contracts for the construction of 7.7 km of elevated line and five stations along the line.
Line’s alignment and station locations were announced in 2018.
