RATP awarded Rail – ETF consortium a contract for the design and track installation of southern extension of Paris metro Line 14. The total value of the contact is EUR 71.4 million and is 50:50 split between the two companies of the consortium.
Under the contract, the consortium will be responsible for the detailed design, pneumatic-tired type track installation including turnouts, pedestrian walkways, hand rails and tunnel.
Paris metro Line 14 connects Saint-Lazare and Olympiades. In February, RATP has started the tests on a 6.4 km northern extension from Saint Lazare to Mairie de Saint-Ouen. This extension included the construction of a 5.8 km tunnel and four stations – Pont Cardinet, Porte de Clichy, Clichy Saint-Ouen RER, and Mairie de Saint-Ouen. With the four stations serving Paris 17th arrondissement, the line will reduce the traffic on the Line 13 which is particularly heavy north of Saint-Lazare. According to estimations, the traffic on the Line 13 will be reduced by 20% due to the extension.
The Line 14 will be further extended to cover a total length of 30 km towards Orly Airport. The 14 km southern metro extension will connect Olympiades station, the current terminus of the line and the Orly Airport.
The Line 14 extension from Saint Lazare to Mairie de Saint-Ouen is one of the modernisation and development transport projects to be carried out on the public transport network in the Île-de-France region. The main goal of the public transport development is to provide faster, safer, accessible and comfortable transport services. By 2030, Line 14 will be fully operational, with only 85-seconds intervals between trains at morning peak time in order to meet expected demand.
After the extensions will be completed, the passengers will travel only 16 minutes to the airport.
Line 14 will be part of Grand Paris Express network and it will be connected to the future 15, 16, 17 and 18 lines, forming the backbone for the future regional network.
