The European Commission has launched the 2018 Connecting Europe Facility Transport call for project proposals, with an indicative available budget of EUR 450 million. the call opens co-financing possibilities for projects supporting the policy orientations of the Third Clean Mobility Package. The focus of financial assistance will be on cross-cutting objectives of transport digitalisation, road safety and multimodality.
The call deadline is on 24 October 2018.
The call for proposals supports seven priorities of the CEF Transport multi-annual work programme for 2014-2020 under the General envelope, falling within the three funding objectives of the CEF Regulation. The funding objective 1 has an indicative budget of EUR 100 million, and involves rail interoperability and ERTMS. The EUR 200 million funding objective 2 envisages projects on safe and secure infrastructure as well as on innovation and new technologies, including a focus on safety.
The funding objective 3, with a budget of EUR 150 million includes Intelligent Transport Services for road (ITS), River Information Services (RIS) and connections to and development of multimodal logistics platforms.
A proposal submitted under this call must address one of these priorities, either as works or studies.
The CEF programme has a grant budget of EUR 23.2 billion for the transport sector. Of this amount, EUR 11.3 billion is reserved for projects in Member States eligible for the Cohesion Fund.
Since 2014, 639 projects have been supported with around EUR 22.1 billion EU funding. In addition, 69 project proposals are currently evaluated to allocate the EUR 350 million funding of the 2017 CEF Transport Blending call, and 33 proposals compete for the EUR 290 million funding of the 2017 CEF Transport SESAR call.
