Two Seoul (South Korea) metro operators will merge by the first half of 2016 as part of efforts to enhance efficiency, according to a media report.
Currently, Seoul Metro runs Seoul subway lines 1-4 and Seoul Metropolitan Rapid Transit Corporation operates lines 5-8.
The Seoul metropolitan government and the unions of the public corporations reached a consensus on the long-standing issue, a senior city official was quoted as saying by Yonhap news agency.
“We plan to merge the two Seoul subway operators by the first half of 2016,” the official said on condition of anonymity.
Details will be announced around Dec. 10 when the city administration makes public plans on Seoul subway renovation, he said.
