By the end of this year, 13 new metro trains will enter commercial services on three Moscow metro lines. Currently, 89 Moskva new-generation trains are running the Russian capital metro system and this month, the authorities have put into service five more trains.
“The Moscow Metro now boasts 89 new trains, including 56 delivered since early 2018. An additional 13 Moskva trains will be running before the year is out, including 10 on the Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya [Line 6] and Tagansko-Krasnopresnenskaya [Line 7], as well as 3 new trains on Filyovskaya Line [Line 4],” said Deputy Moscow Mayor, Maxim Liksutov.
In 2017, the first Moskva train entered service on the Line 7, which is the most congested line. In May 2018, the metro’s Line 6 received new trains for the first time.
The new trains carry 15 percent more riders.
The Filyovskaya Line is to receive 27 Moskva trains before the year is out. They will completely replace the older trains. The Line 6 will follow suit by 2021.
These walk-through trains make things comfortable for people with disabilities with wider door openings, and their head-end carriages have special wheelchair accommodations.
People can recharge smartphones and tablet computers using USB ports, and wall-mounted touchscreens help them find their stations, plot routes and calculate trip times. Additional seats, an improved heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system, effective sound-proofing and other advantages provide for more comfortable trips.
