Polish Railways, PKP PLK, has announced that in 2017 will sign the contract on Poznan-Warsaw mainline modernisation project. Currently, the company is working on the second stage of the tender procedure. In November, as part of the Poznan-Warsaw modernisation, PKP PLK has launched the tender for the Sochaczew – Swarzędz section.
Since last year, PKP is working to an optimal concept of bypass routes and replacement with bus services and, between June 2017 and July 2018, the company will close a 60 km track section between Podstolice and Konin. Stating with July 2018, until June 2019, works will be launched on a 40 km section (Konin – Barłogi rail section). On the other sections, PKP PLK will close only single track sections. The advantage of the proposed solution is to shorten the time of works by 18 months.
Long-distance trains on Poznan – Warsaw route will run from Poznan amended by Gniezno – Inowrocław Rąbinek – Kutno route and further in the direction of Warsaw the previous route. The proposed route, longer than the current approx. 30 minutes, the fastest possible connection between Poznan and Warsaw.
The PLN PLN 2.6 billion (EUR 605 million) project will be co-financed under Connecting Europe Facility and involves the modernisation of 230 km of track, 10 stations and other related works. 500 trains per day will be the frequency of the trains after works completed.
