Metro Vancouver’s regional transportation authority, TransLink, has announced that new investments in transport are being made in communities across the region in 2017.
Phase One of the 10-Year Vision is a plan for increasing transit services and improving roads, cycling and walking infrastructure throughout Metro Vancouver. The first changes introduced as part of Phase One include more frequent service for the SkyTrain network and SeaBus.
Under the SkyTrain programme, the authority will introduce more frequent service on the Canada Line and on Expo and Millennium lines, the evening service are already extended. The first phase envisages a 20% increase in rail service (Expo Line, Millenium Line and Evergreen Extension, Canada Line, West Coast Express), the pre-construction and consultation on Broadway metro and Surrey LRT.
These transit service enhancements, enabled by the Phase One Plan, represent an important first step in creating the transport system that will need to meet future demand. The plan is funded by a combination of federal and provincial government contributions and modest increases to local funding from Metro Vancouver residents and businesses.
The 10-Year Vision will be rolled out in three phases, each timed to the delivery of new projects and services.
