Work started on the $1.034 billion TEX Rail project, which is more than a decade in the making. The project includes nine train stations along a 27-mile route from downtown Fort Worth to North Richland Hills, Grapevine and DFW Airport’s Terminal B.
The Fort Worth Transportation Authority, which is in charge of the project, said that the project isn’t fully funded, but they have enough money and permission from the federal government to get started on construction.
TEX Rail commuter trains are expected to begin service in late 2018, connecting Fort Worth, Grapevine and North Richland Hills. More than 8,000 daily riders are expected in the early years, and that number is expected to grow to 13,000 daily riders by 2035.
