Baton Rouge’s proposed modern tram line along Nicholson Drive received a key approval from the Federal Transit Administration, which ruled that the project would have no significant environmental impact on the area.
The “Finding of No Significant Impact” (FONSI) clears the way for the project to move from the planning phase to the project development stage, which includes design and construction.
The project is expected to cost a total of $170 million. Baton Rouge seeks to obtain federal funding of $67.5 million for the project. If federal funding is approved early next year, the tram line could be operational by mid-2021.
