Croatian rolling stock manufacturer TZV Gredelj has begun the delivery of four out of seven GT26 CW diesel locomotives to U.S.-based National Railway Equipment Company (NRE). The locomotives are designed to pull heavy freight trains on non-electrified lines. The delivery of the remaining three locomotives should begin mid-August. The value of the order was not disclosed.
Gredelj and NRE have a long-standing partnership, with the Croatian company having manufactured, repaired and upgraded a number of locomotives for the Mt. Vernon, Illinois-headquartered firm. Gredelj entered bankruptcy in 2012, but has since maintained operations and produced 44 locomotives for NRE.
