The Deputy General Director of Tver Carriage Works (TVZ) Taras Spivak, the head of Siemens Mobility in Russia, Joerg Liebscher, and Alexey Skatin, Deputy director of Russian Post Logistics signed a memorandum of understanding to develop mail cars that will be put into service on Berlin-Moscow-Beijing route.
The new cars will be produced according to requirements for rolling stock adopted in Russia and European Union. It is planned to develop a set of cars for the Russian and European gauge. The main stages of the project will be worked out during the 2016-2017 period.
Last year, Russian Post launched a USD 15 million tender for the acquisition of 50 wagons.
According to the national postal operator, Russian Post, such cars will be needed due to the significantly increased demand for international shipments. In the first half of this zear, the company processed nearly one hundred million international shipments, twice more than in the first half of 2015
