„Milli Elektrikli Lokomotif E1000”, a Turkish-made electric locomotive will begin service by 2016, Industry Minister Fikri Işık said. The electric locomotive was manufactured by TÜLOMSAŞ, the Turkish manufacturer of locomotives, and it was delivered to TCDD. “We have produced the electric locomotive. Our Turkish-made locomotives will be on rails in 2016. Next, an electric car is on the agenda” Işık said in an exclusive interview with Anadolu Agency. Apart from the production of electric locomotives, there is also an ongoing R&D project aimed at producing engines for these vehicles, Işık added. “We are also working on engines for high-speed trains,” he added.
The most critical component of rail transport for which Turkey had previously relied on imports, the traction and train control systems, were designed, manufactured and delivered to Turkish State Railways for the first time with this project. “All parts developed under the project are high value-added products which had not previously been designed before in Turkey.” Industry Minister added.
