Turkey carries out final installation work on BTK

Last installation work is being carried out on the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway in the Turkish province of Ardahan. Certain work is being carried out during night time for the early commissioning of the railway.
The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line is being constructed on the basis of the Georgian-Azerbaijani-Turkish intergovernmental agreement. The peak capacity of the railway will be 17 million tons of cargo per year. Initially, there will be one million passengers and 6.5 million tonnes of cargo.
BTK has a total length of 838.6 km and connects Turkish city Kars with Baku, in Azerbaijan and Tbilisi, in Georgia.
The line was estimated to be put into commercial service in June, but it was delayed due to infrastructure problems on Georgian territory. According to a statement made by Turkey’s Minister of Transport Ahmet Arslan, the railway line will be launched in August.
