The second rail bridge over the Bug – part of Rail Baltica to soon enter services

PKP Polish Railway Lines has announced that all spans of the second railway bridge over the Bug river on the Rail Baltica line between Warsaw and Białystok are installed.
The project, with a value of PLN 569 million (EUR 133 million), co-financed through CEF, eliminates the so-called bottleneck on the currently single-track crossing between Sadowne and Czyżew. Thanks to the construction of two bridges on the Bug, the railway will be two-track along the entire route connecting Warsaw with Białystok. Since March, trains have been crossing the Bug with a new, 300-meter railway bridge and at the beginning of 2020, trains will run on the second track after the completion of the works.
The railway bridge over the Bug river is the longest engineering facility on the railway line connecting Warsaw and Białystok.
The Sadowne-Czyżew rail section is another modernised section of Rail Baltica, connecting Mazovia and Podlasie and in the future will be part of the international rail connection between the Baltic States and Central Europe.
The project is implemented under the “Works on the E75 railway line (Sadowne-Czyżew section) along with the remaining works on the Warsawa Rembertów-Sadowne section”. It envisages the modernisation of Sadowne-Czyzew and Warsaw Rembertow-Sadowne sections with a total length of 102 km. The project also includes the deployment of the ERTMS/ETCS.
With a total value of EUR 235 million, the project has a 76% EU contribution, representing EUR 179 million.
