The upgrade of the Plovdiv-Svilengrad rail will be completed by the end of 2015, according to the Bulgarian Transport Ministry. The first section of the railway, between the southern town of Svilengrad and Parvomay, has been completed at 73%, the transport ministry announced. In 2011, the Bulgarian government approved a 281 million lev (143.7 million euros) grant for the reconstruction and electrification of the Plovdiv–Svilengrad railway.
