Telecommunications company Tele2 and RZD have signed an agreement on cooperation in developing services. The main purpose of the agreement is to provide continuous coverage of Tele2 network along railway infrastructure, providing passengers with high-speed wireless Internet and other services. Both sides have agreed on the use of equipment to offer mobile broadband access in RZD trains.
The agreement is opening new opportunities for Tele2 and RZD. The companies have earlier successfully tested technology for driverless train control and station-radio communications based on the LTE-450 network launched under the Skylink brand. Under this pilot project, Tele2 and RZD have completed testing the Mobile Edge Computing (MEC) technology at the Luzhskaya shunting station of October Railways. Thanks to the MEC solution the operator may use video in a real-time mode in locomotive control system. The technology allows video transfer from the cameras installed at the locomotive engine directly onto train-control centre bypassing common data flow. This reduces the time for transferring information between the locomotive and the server set at the station by maintaining the quality of data.
Tele2 and RZD have also tested an opportunity for organizing voice and video calls for groups and individuals by using special telecommunications terminals with PTT (PushToTalk) and PTV (PushToVideo) options. Their purpose is to instantly transfer information and solve operating issues by railway employees. When testing the quality of messages, pictures and videos transferred between the terminals remained steadily high.
