SWISS and SBB are continuing their successful collaboration. The SWISS Air Rail network will also be expanded to include the attractive destinations of Chur, Davos, Klosters and St. Moritz in the canton of Graubünden.
Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) and SBB have been continuously expanding their joint services and products since 2019 in order to further optimize the connection between rail and air. What began with the strategic partnership on the Basel – Zurich Airport route has now developed into a network of over 20 SWISS Air Rail destinations that has been met with great response from customers. SWISS and SBB expect demand to grow by 15 percent in 2024. The partnership was initially limited to five years. Now the two leading Swiss transport companies have decided to continue their successful cooperation indefinitely in the future.
“SBB and SWISS both stand for Swiss values, for quality and reliability. This collaboration enables us to offer our passengers a travel experience that seamlessly combines the strengths of rail and air transport. This cooperation sets new standards in travel comfort,” says Heike Birlenbach, Chief Commercial Officer of SWISS.
In addition, the partners are expanding their offering to include attractive destinations in the canton of Graubünden. Thanks to the connection to the SWISS Air Rail network, Chur and, thanks to the Rhaetian Railway, Davos, Klosters and St. Moritz are now easily accessible for international guests. The new routes can be booked for travel from October 2, 2024. Birlenbach adds: “I am particularly pleased that, thanks to the expanded cooperation, we can now offer even more connections within Switzerland in order to optimally meet the needs of our passengers.”
“The indefinite continuation of our partnership with SWISS and the new connections to Chur, Davos, Klosters and St. Moritz show how we are jointly creating sustainable, diverse offers. Our customers benefit from seamless travel connections and an expanded network that brings the world and Switzerland even closer together. Together we encourage people to get on board,” adds Véronique Stephan, member of the Executive Board and Head of the Passenger Transport Market at SBB.
Flexible travel arrangements by flight and train
In order to optimally connect additional and especially tourist locations to the global route network, SWISS is also focusing on direct connections without transfers and optimizing customer service in the event of operational irregularities. SWISS Air Rail can be booked in conjunction with a SWISS flight at www.swiss.com or in any travel agency. Customers can select one of the available train stations as the departure or arrival point and thus book their train and flight journey in one step.
Passengers only need to check in once and receive all boarding passes directly from SWISS. They also have the option of using the train ticket one day before departure or one day after arrival, allowing them to make their journey even more flexible. As with all SWISS Air Rail routes, SWISS offers its passengers a connection guarantee in the event of delays. Miles & More members also collect miles and points with a SWISS Air Rail ticket. The number of these depends on the connecting flight and flight class. SWISS First and SWISS Business guests also travel in 1st class.
With this further expansion of the service, the SWISS Air Rail network now includes a total of 21 destinations. It already serves Basel, Bellinzona, Bern, Brig, Fribourg/Freiburg, Geneva, Interlaken, Lausanne, Lugano, Lucerne, Montreux, Sierre, Sion, Vevey and Visp in Switzerland, as well as Munich in Germany and Bregenz in Austria.
