Sweden’s Prime Minister Stefan Löfven officially opened the Stockholm Citybanan line (Stockholm City Line) that doubles the track capacity on city’s commuter rail network.
“It is necessary to develop the railway infrastructure in Stockholm’s area. This will boost rail passenger traffic and it will not bring benefits only for Stockholm’s citizens, but also to all other rail travellers in Sweden,” the Prime Minister said.
The two City Line stations, Odenplan and T-Centralen, are important interchange centres and provide new travel opportunities. For those passengers who change between commuter trains and buses or the metro, the time travel is shorter, as they have connections to the other transport modes.
“Citybanan promotes railway transport, reduces the time travel within the city area and it will improve the railway traffic,” Minister of Infrastructure, Anna Johansson said.
Citybanan is a 6 km-long commuter train tunnel running between Tomteboda and Stockholm South, with two new stations at Odenplan and T-Centralen.
Stockholm City Line in central Stockholm is located directly beneath T-Centralen metro station and replaces Stockholm Central as the station for commuter train services. Stockholm City provides direct access to all metro lines.
The station at Odenplan replaces Karlberg Station. It is used jointly for commuter rail services and metro services.
