Spain will be inaugurating high-speed rail works worth about 2.4 billion euros by the end of 2015, Infrastructure Minister Ana Pastor announced. The new high-speed rail works account for 60% of the 3.7-billion-euro investment that the ministry intends to tender this year despite criticism from opposition parties, which want investment in research and development and have criticized waste in railway infrastructure. „High-speed rail is a productive investment and one with social, environmental and economic returns on which the government will continue to focus,” Pastor said at an entrepreneurs meeting in Madrid.
