A GBP 2 million programme of station improvements will be delivered at over 100 Southeastern stations in the coming months, as part of a rapid programme of investment across the Southeastern network.
Between now and the end of March 2025, 116 stations will be deep-cleaned alongside repair and improvement works at 20 stations.
The repair and improvement works will see public areas repainted and customer facilities repaired or replaced. The deep cleans are in addition to the ongoing cleaning work across the network and will help support the growing Southeastern rail network.
These investments in Southeastern stations are part of the wider goal of building a better, more reliable and sustainable railway. The number of customers travelling with Southeastern is continuing to grow and last month, Southeastern recorded a post-pandemic record of 400,000 entries and exits at its London stations.
In addition, the number of customer journeys between April and June this year was over 7% higher than the same period in 2023.
To further support this growth, Southeastern will be introducing a new timetable in December, with 220 additional services every week, including more ‘Rounder’ services on the Metro area of the network, supporting more journeys for more customers in south-east London.
Further station improvements, including new waiting shelters, seating and retail refurbishments will be announced in the coming weeks, too.
“Our stations are the first and last impression our customers receive and that is why we are continually working to ensure they’re at the highest possible standard. This GBP 2 million investment will see 116 stations deep cleaned alongside improvement and repair work at 20 stations – all to be delivered before the end of March next year. We run a growing railway, with over 400,000 journeys in and out of London on our busiest days and this further investment in our stations, alongside our expanded timetable, will help to further increase customer numbers and support our wider communities,” said David Wornham, Passenger Services Director at Southeastern.
