Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, has secured funding for the construction of 12 new stations on the projected third line of the underground, the director of the municipal company Metropolitan Stoyan Bratoev announced, Novinite reports.
The financing will be provided from the Operational Programme Transport and co-funding from Bulgarian authorities.
The public procurement procedure on the construction of 8 new stations and the purchase of 12 new trains was launched this week. The candidates and their offers will be later announced at the website of Metropolitan.
The director of the metro company expressed hope that all public procurement procedures will be completed by the spring and added that an auction for the purchase of another ten trains is foreseen.
In 2019, the construction of 12 new stations with a total length of 12 kilometres is foreseen.
