SNCF has reduced the availability of regional tickets this month, from 61 days to just 7 days for the regional express trains and intercity trains.
The measure has been made so as to tackle fraud. As tickets have a very extended validity period , there are many passengers travelling with the same ticket and don’t validate it until they observe the presence of a ticket inspector. SNCF believes that this measure will trigger additional revenues of EUR 15 Million per year.
At present, around 80% of the passengers using regional trains buy their tickets in the week prior their journey.
