The officials of Spain Government and of the Regional Government of Andalusia (Junta de Andalucía) officially launched the construction works of the northern section of Seville metro Line 3 from Pino Montano Norte to Los Mares.
The event took place on April 8, 2024, attended by the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, the Minister of Transport and Sustainable Mobility, Óscar Puente, the Minister of Housing and Urban Agenda, Isabel Rodriguez, and the President of Andalusia Government, Juanma Moreno.
EUR 1.3 billion is the total cost of the project of which Spanish Government has covered 50% providing EUR 650 million under an agreement signed with Junta de Andalucía at the beginning of 2023.
The new section of Seville metro Line 3 consists of a double track, mostly underground line, which has a length of about 7.5 km with 12 stations of which 11 underground, as well as a 1.3 km technical branch connecting the line with the workshops and depot facilities. The northern section begins in the northern area of the city, next to the SE-20 highway in Pino Montano, and extends to the Prado de San Sebastián area, where it will connect with Line 1.
“The metro expansion works have finally soared overcoming 14 years of hiatus. These works begin to make the metro a reality for one of the most populous areas of the capital. The Northern section of Line 3 will serve a population of about 120,000 inhabitants who live, work and move along its entire route and will provide connection with Line 1. The new metro line will deliver faster services to the city’s important areas such as hospitals, cultural centres, universities and courts,” the President of Junta de Andalucía said.
The residents of Pino Montano in north Seville will have access to three metro stations between the Brenes highway and the Los Mares neighborhood. The new line will cross through Macarena Hospital, the Historic Ronda and Capuchinos, to the center of Seville.
In 2023, work has begun for the construction of the technical branch performed by Lantania and DSV Constructora y Ferroviaria under a EUR 6.4 million contract. “Today [April 8, 2024], on the verge of concluding that first intervention, line’s development begins, with the construction of the first three stations throughout the Pino Montano neighborhood to connect it to Line 1,” Juanma Moreno concluded.
