Serbian state-owned power utility Elektroprivreda Srbije (EPS) has received from China Railway Rolling Stock Corp (CRRC) the first of two electric locomotives ordered under a EUR 4.4 million contract. The locomotive will be used in the transportation of coal from the Kolubara mine to the Termoelektrane Nikola Tesla (TENT) power plant. The contract for the delivery of the locomotives was signed in March 2016 and represents TENT’s biggest investment in means of railway transport in the last 30 years.
“For EPS it is important that the Chinese locomotive can operate in adverse weather conditions, as last winter we saw how important it is to have reliable transport of coal from the mine to the power plant,” the managing director of the company, Milorad Grcic, said.
