European Investment Bank Vice-President, Ambroise Fayolle, and the Chairman of the Executive Board of Société du Grand Paris, Philippe Yvin, announced a second financing agreement worth EUR 1 billion for Line 15 South of the Grand Paris Express.
The financing will be dedicated to the construction of Line 15 South of the Grand Paris Express, which will connect the east (Pont de Sèvres) and west (Noisy Champs) of the Paris region in less than 40 minutes.
“This long-term loan (up to 40 years) will have a very competitive interest rate and is particularly well suited to the requirements of Société du Grand Paris. The overall financing model of the Grand Paris Express is based on long-term loans, backed by tax revenue of around EUR 550m per year earmarked in support of a strategic investment for France,” Philippe Yvin said.
This agreement brings the EIB’s total support for the project so far to EUR 2 billion given that an initial EUR 1 billion contract was signed in 2016.
Line 15 South will connect Paris’ southern suburbs by building a 33-km long railway with 16 stations and two maintenance depots on the west axis (from Pont de Sèvres) to the east in Noisy Champs. The total cost of the project is EUR 6.85 billion. From 2016 until now, Société du Grand Paris has awarded all 8 civil engineering contracts with a total cost of EUR 3.7 billion.
41 work sites are expected to be opened by the end of the year. The railway is expected to be put into operation as of 2022 and will cross 22 communes with 1 million residents. The travel time between Pont de Sèvres and Noisy – Champs is 37 minutes.
