Alpiq and Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group consortium has won a EUR 62 million contract from Swiss Federal Railways (SBB) Canton of Geneva for CEVA rail route on Western Switzerland.
Under the contract, the consortium will equip the 16-km rail CEVA route CEVA (Cornavin − Eaux-Vives − Annemasse) with railway technology for SBB’s customers and Canton of Geneva. Upon completion, the new train route will not only relieve traffic congestion in the Geneva region, but will also fill a gap in rail services between Western Switzerland and France. The construction of the railway engineering systems presents special challenges in project management, scheduling, logistics and work safety. 14 of the 16 train km are in the city of Geneva. The route runs from the Geneva main train station, Cornavin, past several other train stations, various stopping points, through tunnels and over bridges before reaching its end destination in Annemasse, France. The crossover from the Swiss to the French railway system must be ensured both in terms of logistics as well as technology.
