San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) awarded Mid-Coast Transit Contractors, a joint venture of Stacy and Witbeck, Herzog and Skanska, has been awarded a USD 921.8 million construction manager/general contractor contract.
The Mid-Coast LRT will develop the existing service from the Old Town Transit Center to the University City community, serving major activity centers such as the Mission Bay area, the VA Medical Center, the UC San Diego, and Westfield UTC Transit Center. The 18.5 project includes 9 new stations.
Construction of the project is under way, with revenue service anticipated to begin in 2021.
Stacy and Witbeck is the joint venture lead and Parsons Brinkerhoff, Kimley Horn and HDR are the designers for the project.
We remind that in September, US Department of Transport committed USD 1 billion toward building the San Diego region’s newest LRT line, signing an agreement that will provide 50 percent of the funds to extend the network. Revenues from TransNet, the countywide half-cent sales tax for transport, are covering half of the USD 2.1 billion total project cost.
