RZD to build rail tracks in Kalimantan

Kalimatan-map_indexWhile the construction of the Trans Sulawesi railway is now underway, the island of Kalimantan will this November see the groundbreaking of tracks that run from East Kalimantan to South Kalimantan.
When completed, they will be the first rail lines in Sulawesi and Kalimantan, two of the country’s largest islands. In Indonesian history, only the islands of Java and Sumatra have had train services.
The dual-railway project in Kalimantan is meant to transport passengers and freight.
Russian Railways (RZD) will build the 900-kilometer project. The project will cost Rp 72 trillion (USD 5.2 billion) which will be provided by the Russian Railways.
The Kalimantan rail line project is scheduled for completion after five years. Land clearance (for the project) has been completed.
