According to preliminary data, freight handling across the railway network of RZD decreased by 1% to 1.215 billion tonnes in 2015, the company informed. The freight turnover grew by 0.2% to 2.304 trillion tariff tonne-kilometers.
The drop came despite increases in some sectors. Thus, handling of grain and milled products increased by 2.7% to 18.7 million tonnes, handling of timber cargoes by 2% to 39.5 million tonnes, coal handling by 2.5% to 323.3 million tonnes, handling of iron and manganese ores by 0.4% to 109 million tonnes, handling of non-ferrous metal ores and raw sulfuric products by 6.1% to 20.4 million tonnes, handling of chemical and mineral fertilizers by 4.4% to 51.4 million tonnes.
In December 2015 alone, freight handling went up 1.1% year-on-year to 104.3 million tonnes, while freight turnover grew by 1.6% to 201.9 billion tariff tonne-kilometers.
