The prospects of rail ferry links between Russia and Germany have been discussed at the Round Table meeting on transport and logistics in the maritime sector held at the Government of the Leningrad Region within the framework of the Days of German Economy and the visit of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern delegation.
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, a federated state in northern Germany, is located at the crossroads of important transport routes and has an access to the Baltic Sea. Sassnitz-Mukran is of a strategic significant for the state. It is the larges rail ferry port in Germany and the largest multi-purpose transshipment hub. The shortest way from Germany to Scandinavia, Baltic States and Russia runs via Sassnitz.
