RZD has announced that it intends to carry out construction works on a rail line with Latvia. RZD has already informed Latvijas Dzelzcels (LDz) of this decision. Accordingly, for a period of two months rail traffic between the two countries will be restricted, meaning that transit cargo shipments will also be hindered. The Russian side has yet to inform which rail line between Latvia and Russia will be restricted.
Transport Ministry State Secretary Dzineta Innusa has confirmed that the ministry has received unofficial information that Russia intends to halt the transit of coal shipments through Latvia, however, there has yet to be an official confirmation of this information.
