A working group for the development of Hyperloop technologies has been established within the Transport Ministry of Russia. The decree was signed by the Head of the Ministry, Maxim Sokolov.
Deputy Minister of Transport, Alexey Tsydenov, was appointed a president of the group. Representatives of the Transport Ministry, the Federal Customs Service of Russia and the Ministry of the Far East Development, the Russian Railways and other organizations will become members of the working group.
This group is intended to elaborate proposals on the improvement of the existing legal base, as well as transport infrastructure.
Hyperloop is a transport mode that propels a pod-like vehicle through a near-vacuum tube at more than airline speed.
This Hyperloop-like transport system would link the western and eastern ends as well as the northern and southern ends of the country — the largest in the world.
The first section of the transport system could link Moscow to St. Petersburg — a distance of nearly 650 kilometers, — according to Anatolyi Zaitsev, the head of Center for the development of passenger rail transport.
„According to western price standards, implementing such a project would cost USD 21 billion, while in Russia the cost would not exceed USD 12-13 billion,” Zaitsev added.
