Russia – China container traffic to double

For 2017, Russian Railways expects the doubling of the container transit with China, the company’s president Oleg Belozerov said, during a meeting with the general director of China Railways, Lu Dongfu.
According to the latest analysis, currently, the rail freight traffic between the two countries increased by 15%, and the container transport, with more than 60%. “The volume of transit container transport shows even more impressive results. Over the past 2 years, it has increased by 89%. In 2017, the volume of container transit is also expected to double,” the two directors noted.
During the meeting, it was signed an agreement on electronic data interchange for railway transport. The main purpose of the agreement is to ensure the transfer in real time of data of shipping and shipping documents. The electronic exchange does not negate the existing document management system established by Agreement on International Goods Transport by Rail (SMGS). In the future, the transition to electronic document management will simplify control procedures at checkpoints and shorten the time for customs clearance, thereby increasing the speed of train traffic.
“The efficient use of the transit potential of Russian railways linked to the development of international transport corridors passing through Russia is a strategic priority for Russian Railways, and we will do our best to ensure that this task is accomplished as soon as possible. The goal is to increase the speed and convenience of transport,” the president of Russian Railways said.
The new of transport technology systems will improve the quality and efficiency of transport and logistics services, which will lead to an increase in commodity flows from Asia to Europe and vice versa.” I am confident that in the future we will have even greater growth. The agreement signed is useful in terms of revitalizing the rail freight transport,” Lu Dongfu noted.
The heads of railways also agreed to work out the issue of organizing, by July 1, the experimental transport of e-commerce goods using postal and baggage cars as part of the Beijing-Moscow passenger trains.
