Royal inauguration for Brussels’ tram extension

King Philippe inaugurated Brussels’ tram Line 9, traveling by tram the opening of the renovated Place Reine Astrid. The line has a length of 4 km served by 10 stops. The President-minister of the Brussels government Rudi Vervoort and the representatives of Brussels’ public transport company, Stib, participated at the official ceremony.
The line offers rail connection between the Simonis and Arbre Ballon stations, pass through the UZ Brussels hospital area.
“Our tram network will soon be 150 years old, but it continues to grow. We now have 18 tram lines,” says Brieuc de Meeûs, STIB CEO said.
The project had a total cost of EUR 76 million, of which EUR 20 million were provided by Brussels region. Works started in 2015, when the first rails were installed and the Arbre Ballon/Dikke Beuk avenue was renovated
