Romania has submitted 14 projects to contract European funds within the Connecting Europe Facility Programme. Several of the 14 projects submitted are for the railway, naval and intermodal sectors and seek to develop the infrastructure capacity on the TEN-T network and the Rhine-Danube Corridor.
Thus, for the modernisation of the railway connection between Braşov and Sighişoara: section Braşov-Apața and Cața-Sighişoara, the financing demand is of EUR 890 Million. The project includes the upgrade of the double railway line for speeds of 160 km/h and for 22.5 t/axis on the two sections. Other two projects include the elaboration of the feasibility study for the rail section Craiova-Drobeta Turnu Severin-Caransebeş (230 km) and the review of the feasibility study for the railway section Craiova-Calafat (108 km) for financing worth EUR 6 Million, and EUR 500 Thousand respectively.
The projects for which a CEF financing has been demanded include the development of a multimodal platform in the Port of Galaţi (EUR 136 Million), a multi-modal infrastructure platform for hydro carbons in the Port of Constanța (EUR 92 Million), High Performance Green Port Giurgiu Stage II – Construction: the development of an intermodal terminal in the free zone of Giurgiu Port (EUR 15.5 Million), A single window for the efficient integration of multimodal transport and port operations – studies for Intelligent Transport Systems (EUR 6 Million).
The next call for projects to contract financing for transportation will be opened in the first part of 2016.
