The City of Helsinki considers that the project for a railway tunnel between the Finnish capital and Tallinn (Estonia) would be profitable. The value of the project is estimated at 13 billion euros. About 11 mln. people a year would use the tunnel, according to the estimates of the Helsinki city government.
According to a preliminary study the project’s costs can be covered if the European Union would grant at least 40% of the the necessary funds.
The tunnel’s rail line would have a gauge of 1,435 millimeters.
